Spray foam is code-compliant across Alberta when it's the right product, applied to standard, and finished correctly. Three requirements matter most: the material and installation standards, the vapour control the assembly needs, and the thermal barrier over foam in living space.
The core requirements
- Standards: closed-cell medium-density foam is manufactured to CAN/ULC-S705.1 and installed to S705.2, by a certified applicator.
- Thermal barrier: foam in occupied space must be covered with a code-required thermal barrier (commonly drywall, or an approved coating) for fire safety.
- Vapour control: the assembly must manage vapour - and closed-cell at about 2" is its own vapour retarder, which changes what else the wall needs.
Why it matters to you
